Directions to the Picnic

From Gettysburg:
Proceed west on Route 30 from the Gettysburg Square; in approximately 6 miles, veer left on Old Route 30 toward McKnightstwon.  Go 2 miles, turn left onto Ortanna Road and follow the blue winery signs.  If you miss the Old Route 30 turn, you can turn left in another 2 miles at the first blinking yellow light.

There are well-marked blue highway signs for the Winery at this intersection and every turn you'll make from here.  Proceed toward Cashtown for one mile, then turn left at the T intersection.  In 100 yards turn right. In about one mile, you'll come to another T intersection with a stop sign; turn right.  You'll be immediately facing a fork in the road.  Keep to the left branch.  In 1/2 mile, at the bottom of the hill, turn right on Peach Tree Road.  In 1/3 mile, turn left onto the Winery's paved driveway and proceed 1/4 mile to the Winery.

From Harrisburg, Lancaster and Points East:
If driving the PA Turnpike, exit at Gettysburg Pike Intersection and take Route 15 South to Gettysburg.  Exit Route 15 at Route 30 West and follow the remaining directions listed above from Gettysburg Square.

From Chambersburg:
Proceed east on Route 30 for 18 miles.  Turn right at the blinking yellow light.  Follow the blue signs for the Winery for the remaining 3 miles.

Prizes

There will be a Chinese Auction for 15 different greyt prizes. This differs from the traditional raffle in that, instead of all tickets sold being placed in one jar and each prize winning ticket being drawn from that jar, there will be a separate ticket jar for each prize. You decide where to place your tickets based on which prizes tickle your fancy. You can spread your tickets around or load up on just one prize drawing. Every prize will have a retail value of about $50.00, many in excess of $50.00.

A few examples:
   * Sunday Brunch for Two at the Atland House in Abbottstown
   * Ladies Colognes and Cosmetics by Estee Lauder from the Bon Ton worth over $200
   * A Hand Crocheted Greyhound Sweater and Snood from Joanne Hollinger
And nine other valuable items.

There will be the usual 50/50 drawing and aSpecial Silent Auction with over 40 greyt prizes to bid on, including both Greyhound affinity items and non-Greyhound related items.

Tickets for both the Chinese Auction and the 50/50 drawing will be on sale at the prize tent - $1.00 per ticket or six tickets for $5.00.

There will also be 3 Advance Registration Prize Drawings (details in "ADVANCE REGISTRATION" section).

Music! Music! Music!

LIVE!  Hotwing Jones  This group plays a variety of original compositions and cover songs and has been a mainstay on the Central PA music scene for eight years.  Not quite classic rock, and not quite a roots rock band, their music feels familiar but sounds different.  The band has the distinction of being voted by the readers of Harrisburg Magazine the "Simply the Best" local band in 2004 and 2005 and has received the "Readers Choice Award" every year from 2006 through 2010.  They will be on stage from noon to 2:15.

Food & Beverages

We will have a food vendor again, but with a much wider selection to choose from including hot dogs, smoked sausage, cheeseburgers, veggie burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, lump crabmeat sandwiches, french fries, water, soda and iced tea - all at reasonable prices.

In addition, you are invited to bring a covered dish dessert that does not require refrigeration and is pre-cut in serving sizes to share with your fellow picnickers.  And please remember to recover your serving containers at the end of the day.

By all means, bring your own picnic food and non-alcoholic beverages if you prefer.  Of course, you can always "diet" for the day. (What a terrible way to enjoy a picnic!)

There are ample trash receptacles in and around the picnic area.  It is expected that everyone will take the responsibility to clean up his/her own trash, not leave it on a picnic table inside a tent and most certainly not on the ground.

Important Miscellania

  • Please, Greyhounds only   We ask that you not bring other breeds.  The day belongs to our hounds.  Understand that the winery does allow dogs and we can't control if the general public visits that day with their dogs, but we can and must control ours.

  • Remember to bring poop bags, lawn chairs, and very important, something soft for your dog to lay on.

  • Water is available, but feel free to bring your own bowl and your hound’s favorite brand.

  • You, your family and your guests must be registered either in advance or at the door and display your name badges.  Sales may be made to members of the general public who happen to drop in, and they are most welcome to come and observe and gather info, but not to participate in the free covered dish desserts that you bring.

Advance Registration

Sign up now (and save $$$) for the picnic by completing the Advance Registration and T-Shirt Order Form, cut it out and mail it to Ilene Sauertieg at the address shown by the postmark date listed. You will then be entered in the special advance registration prize drawing. (See details below).

As was the case last year, to take advantage of a discount, the money for advance registration and T-shirts MUST be mailed with your Registration Form - $5.00 per adult, $2.00 per child 10 & under.  Registration at the door will be higher - $7.00 and $3.00.  T-shirts are $10.00.

Doing it now will save everyone lots of time at the registration table where you will receive your name tags and T-shirts.  Advance registration is not a must, just a good idea that could turn out to be especially profitable for you and save you money!

It is not necessary to order the T-shirts to be eligible for the advance registration drawing prize.  If you do register in advance, but find that you can't attend the picnic, there will not be a refund of the registration fees, but if you paid for a T-shirt, it will be sent to you.

Please note:  The T-shirt is a high quality white cotton shirt with the logo on the front of the shirt in 3 colors.  (Check out the logo at the top of the page).

Registering in advance does not constitute an order for a T-shirt.  You should also complete that section of the form.

There will only be a few shirts available beyond those ordered, so don't be left out.

And finally, please no email or phone messages to register.  Only those who send the form via snail mail will be eligible for...

  • Rescued Greyhounds Run Just for Fun Clock - Black plastic casing, 8" face, quartz clock with running Greyhound sweep

  • Indoor/Outdoor Greyhound Thermometer - 10"

  • Tan Canvas Laptop Bag, in & Outside Pockets, Embroidered Greyhound Design.
